CIA Targeting Analyst

Work Schedule: Full Time
Salary: $44,465 – $86,801*
Location: Washington, DC metropolitan area

The Central Intelligence Agency's Directorate of Intelligence (DI) is looking for candidates to serve as targeting analysts. Targeting analyst positions involve research, analysis, writing, and briefing using network analysis techniques and specialized analytic tools to identify and detail key figures and organizations who may pose a threat to US interests. Target analyst positions are available focusing on many regional areas including the Middle East, East Asia, South Asia, Europe, and Latin America, and on several functional topics or nonstate actors including proliferation, narcotics trafficking, money laundering, terrorism, and cyber threats. This work demands initiative, creativity, analytical skills, and some technical expertise or aptitude. Targeting analysts produce a range of current and longer-term intelligence products, brief key US policymakers, and regularly provide tactical analytic support to law enforcement, US military consumers, and intelligence operations. Agency analysts are encouraged to maintain and broaden professional ties through academic study, contacts, and attendance at professional meetings. They may also choose to pursue additional studies in fields relevant to their areas of responsibility. Opportunities exist for foreign travel, language training, analytic and management training, and assignments in other offices in the Agency and throughout the US Government.

*Higher starting salary possible depending on experience level.

Minimum requirements include a bachelor's degree in foreign area study, international relations, political science, history, national security studies, international trade, business, economics, finance, computer science, engineering, WMD technologies, or proliferation. Strong academic credentials in network analysis, stateless organizations, or intelligence analysis are a plus. For some specialties, a master's or advanced technical degree, or language proficiency may be required. Candidates must also possess strong skills in written and oral English, demonstrate excellent analytical ability, solid interpersonal skills, and the ability to work under tight deadlines. A GPA of 3.0 or better on a 4.0 scale is required.
